Fiber Art

My fiber work is emotionally and conceptually driven. It takes inspiration from my deep respect and adoration of nature as well as emotions that I have experienced throughout the many events of my life. Growing up in the Adirondacks and always viewing nature as a place of solace, beauty and perfect imperfections has led to an immense respect for what nature represents and what it can mean to every person. I choose to portray nature because it is provides such a vast array of emotions and the media can be represented as direct imagery or using abstract methods. I use natural dyeing and natural fiber like cotton and wool to create my woven pieces and to do much of my dyeing. As I see it, nature parallels the human life, not just from the standpoint of it follows the circle of life, but it can be imperfect, chaotic, destructive and unruly, but it is incredibly beautiful despite everything it can be. Much of dyeing and fibers follows this concept as much is unpredictable. It represents much of what we feel as humans. I enjoy creating work that clearly reflects images from nature that can evoke emotions of beauty, but also tranquility.

My second inspiration takes for in the emotions that I experiences and is directly related to my experience with cancer and my love for my family. I use color, embroidery and tatting to create these works. Creating pieces in this method, tends to evoke a different vision, the intent of the piece is much more obvious and direct, but still conveys the ideas that life is beautiful and what we make it.
